3G iPhone for 8k++

Steve Jobs already announced (well, I’m a bit late for the news though) the availability of 3G iPhone to be released on 25 Countries, gladly, including Philippines. It would be officially released worldwide by July, and it would be available here locally probably by September.

The price would be fixed at $199 USD for 8GB and $299 for 16GB iPhone, worldwide. Nice eh? But there’s a catch… the iPhone would be released by Globe under postpaid or prepaid plans. And as of now, the prepaid plan has been on pending decision yet. Just in case, the 3G iPhone under prepaid would land on a price of at least PhP20,000 ~ PhP25,000 globe-locked. If you wonder what would be price under postpaid plans, check as someone does the math.

On my part, I just thought I became too excited so early. After counting some numbers, it was like someone slapped me to reality. I really thought I can exactly expect some PhP8,000 on iPhone from the market. Oh well.

Smart BRO Prepaid

The Smart BRO USB modem is a small, palm-sized device that you can carry with you wherever you go.  And anytime you need to surf, just plug it into the USB port of your PC, and you’ll get connected in a flash.  Total initial payment is P4500 with FREE P30 broadband load.  Broadband Internet use is P10 for every 30 minutes.

When I first saw the commercial about this, my primary reaction was, that was better than the first offer, sounds exciting. But hey, with PhP4,500 initial payment?! And preloaded only with PhP30.00?! Heck, I’d rather still stick to using 3G mobile phone, no initial payments, just the PhP10.00 per 30min. rate. And yes, no sim card nor modem pad to carry around, only a mobile phone on your hand with 3G capabilities just like an ordinary day. Same speed (Nokia 6110 Navigator has 3.6Mbps 3G speed), same rate (on SMART sim), using same 3G signal, no initial payments. And oh, by the way, Smart has the same rate for GPRS (no more kb/s charging).

People, don’t be fooled.
